A Wisconsin mother and her convicted felon brother were arrested in connection to the April 1 shooting death of a 6-year-old boy.
Da’quel “King” Collins was three days shy of celebrating his seventh birthday when his grandmother found him dead from a gunshot wound, lying in a pool of blood in the living room of her Milwaukee home.
Police arrested the boy’s mother, Daquela Collins, who had left her children in the care of her mother to go to her boyfriend’s home.
Daquela, 26, told cops she saw a video of her brother, 21-year-old Quintell Collins, filming a rap video while holding two firearms with her son sitting on a couch behind him.
The woman told police one of the two guns belonged to her and that she had asked Quintell not to touch her weapon, but he responded with a laughing face emoji.
“Despite observing a video of her convicted felon brother brandishing two firearms in a reckless fashion while rapping with Daquela Collins’s six-year-old son on the couch in the background, Daquela Collins did not leave her boyfriend’s residence and rush home to ensure the safety of [Da’quel].”
Surveillance footage caught Quintell and another man running from the home after the shooting and ditching the other gun under a trash bin.
Quintell, who led officers into a chase before his arrest, denied being at home at the time of the shooting despite the evidence.
“[He] demonstrated to be a continuous liar,” police said.
