Authorities in Bay City, Michigan, are investigating the mysterious death of a middle school student who was found unconscious on a sidewalk a few blocks away from his home after getting off a school bus.
The 14-year-old died on his way home from Handy Middle School on Tuesday, just after a bus dropped him off at around 3 p.m.
Bay City Public Safety Sgt. Ben Krzyminski said that it was unclear whether the teen showed any signs of distress before his sudden death.
The boy had no signs of trauma or drug use, and his death does not appear suspicious or involve foul play.
Krzyminski added that an autopsy is set to be performed, but the boy’s cause of death could take months before being determined.
“We are heartbroken for this family and will do all we can to support them during this time,” he said.
