A 6-year-old Mississippi girl’s death is being investigated as a tragic accident after police said she climbed into a large livestock food barrel and became trapped.
Gracelynn Vick went missing on Sunday, hours before her body was discovered in the 58-gallon barrel roughly 50 feet from her family’s Saucier home.
Investigators believe Vick was playing when she climbed into the barrel and closed the lid from inside.
The child became trapped and later died from a lack of oxygen and heat stress.
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley described the death as a “tragic accident” and likened it to becoming trapped in a hot car.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed that foul play was not involved in the incident.
