A Florida mother and her husband are facing charges after teachers alerted police to the abuse inflicted on a 10-year-old girl over the weekend.
Georgy Almony, 42, allegedly forced his stepdaughter to put her hand on a hot stovetop as a form of punishment for pushing her brother.
The girl screamed in pain and fled to call her mother, 36-year-old Milliene Adeclat, who was not home at the time.
Police said the girl suffered a burn mark in the shape of a coil and lost skin on her hand. Her mother did not seek treatment or report the abuse.
The couple was arrested after a teacher alerted police to the girl’s injuries on Monday. Adeclat reportedly resisted arrest and swung fists at officers.
Almony was charged with aggravated child abuse, causing great bodily harm.
Adeclat faces counts of child neglect and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
