A baby was found alive next to his mother’s body inside a Phoenix apartment last month.
Neighbors called police on May 14 after noticing packages outside the woman’s apartment and not seeing her for several days.
Police responded to the scene and looked through an open window and spotted “an adult woman who was motionless.”
The officers forced entry to the apartment and found a baby wrapped in a blanket on the bed, right by the woman’s body.
“The mother had passed away while the child was still on the bed, still curled up where the mother had left them,” Sgt. Brian Bower said.
Bower thanked the neighbors for alerting authorities, which he said saved the baby’s life.
“It’s because of the smart, immediate actions of the officers, as well as the neighbors seeing something unusual and calling in for help.”
