A suspect is in custody after an “active shooter” situation on the Florida State University campus, authorities said Thursday morning.
One person was listed in critical condition while five others were in serious condition following the incident that canceled all classes and events in Tallahassee and forced a shelter-in-place.
“The President has been briefed on the shooting at Florida State University and the White House is actively monitoring the situation,” WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Police said the situation is still active and more information will be provided later.
A suspect was reportedly taken into custody, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to the Associated Press.
Student Ryan Cedergren said he and dozens of other students hid in a bowling alley in the lower level of the student union after witnessing people running from a bar.
“In that moment, it was survival,” he said.
Police came in and escorted him and the crowd out of the union.
“Our prayers are with our FSU family, and state law enforcement is actively responding,” Gov. Ron DeSantis posted on X.
