Multiple social media posts reported hearing gunshots on Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus as officials sent out shelter-in-place alerts to students and staff.
State troopers, ambulances, and several police agencies responded to the campus, and sirens blew across downtown Tallahassee early Thursday morning.
“An active shooter has been reported in the area of the Student Union. Police are on the scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions,” the alert read.
“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows, and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”
Sources from inside the Bellamy Building reported hearing what sounded like semi-automatic gunfire and said police were evacuating people floor by floor.
