St. Clair County news, Michigan news.

A Michigan woman and her ex-boyfriend were charged with murder in connection with the 2018 death of her 3-year-old son, prosecutors said Monday.

Amanda Maison, 33, and Maurice Houle, 28, were arrested over the death of Matthew Maison, who died from blunt force trauma and possible suffocation in February 2018.

The accused reportedly blamed each other for the toddler’s death, admitting that it was part of a plot “put forth to kill Matthew to make room for a child that the two of them could have together.”

Maison admitted to also having shoved Matthew’s head into a wall “forceful enough to remove the backing of the drywall itself.”

The mother also confessed to lying to investigators about the abuse. She said she hadn’t sought treatment for her toddler because she feared doctors would see his injuries.

In addition to murder charges, Houle also faces three counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer after he reportedly fought with eight officers during his Friday arrest.
