Authorities in Alabama have charged a 20-year-old man in connection to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, an Alabama State University student and a talented dancer.
Rogers McCloud Jr., 20, was reportedly in the vehicle with 21-year-old Gennia Grimes on March 27 when she was shot on U.S. Highway 80 East near Pike Road, Alabama.
Grimes died from her injuries, and investigators arrested her boyfriend after he reportedly gave conflicting statements about the incident.
“The evidence just wasn’t linking up the way he described it,” Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham said.
“This case involves domestic violence where a young innocent woman was murdered at the hands of her boyfriend,” Ass. Chief Wesley Richerson said.
Grimes leaves behind a baby boy. She was a junior studying criminal justice and a member of ASU’s Honey Beez dance team.
“Now, instead of celebrating her future, we are preparing to lay her to rest,” Grimes’ family said in a fundraiser.
