A 4-year-old boy was shot inside an Alabama home where deputies made the shocking discovery of a crocodile and several snakes.
The child was brought to UAB St. Vincent’s Blount in critical condition, suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg and arm.
Blount County Sheriff’s deputies learned that the shooting had occurred at a home on Holliday Drive in Sugarland Lake and conducted a search of the house.
The search uncovered several unsecured guns and drugs in addition to a crocodile and nearly 30 snakes, including a python.
Other children were removed from the home. Fish and game officers were dispatched to the home to remove the reptiles.
“I am working with law enforcement to determine exactly how the child was able to come into possession of the firearm and to determine why emergency medical was not called to the home,” said DA Pamela Casey.
“Parents must ensure guns are properly stored in the home out of the reach of small children.”
