Father, son fatally struck by Amtrak train while trying to prevent other son from taking own life

Three family members were fatally struck by an Amtrak train while trying to prevent a suicide, authorities in Bristol said.

A father and his two adult sons tragically died when they were hit by an Acela high-speed train “traveling southbound towards Philadelphia” near Bristol Station on Thursday evening.

The Bucks County Coroner’s Office identified the three victims as 56-year-old Christopher Cramp, and his two sons, David and Thomas Cramp, ages 31 and 24.

  • Investigators said Christopher and David were trying to prevent Thomas from taking his own life on the tracks when the three were fatally struck by the train.

    The father and his elder son’s deaths were ruled as accidental. Thomas’ death was deemed a suicide.

    Christopher Cramp was remembered as “an adored member” of Bucks County social services who worked with the homeless and the mentally ill.

    “He was empathic and kind. He could really affect people’s lives,” said Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia.
