2 killed after plane crashes near Louisiana airport

Authorities in Louisiana have identified the two victims of a plane crash that occurred late Wednesday in a marshy area of Raceland.

The doomed plane was carrying a man and a woman when it crashed near Highway 90 and Highway 182 while en route to the Houma-Terrebonne Regional Airport.

“A Cessna 210 crashed near Houma-Terrebonne Airport in Louisiana around 8:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 2,” the FAA said in a statement.

    The victims were identified as Lyle Panepinto and Lauren Menkemeller. Their bodies have been recovered after tremendous search and rescue efforts complicated by the darkness and the marshy terrain.

    Panepinto is the owner of Southern Seaplane, the Belle Chasse company that operated the plane.
