Boyfriend accused of killing first-grade teacher turns gun on himself after hours-long standoff

A New York City man accused of shooting his first-grade teacher girlfriend dead earlier this week reportedly turned the gun on himself following an hours-long standoff with police.

Officers responded to a Baychester apartment where the 35-year-old suspect had been hiding with an acquaintance at around 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours as police tried to negotiate his surrender.

    “The police brought him out on a stretcher. He wasn’t moving. I thought he was dead,” a neighbor recalled.

    The suspect is accused of killing Jessica Hoyle, 31, late Tuesday after a day of arguing.

    Hoyle’s mother, who lives in an apartment downstairs, heard the gunshot and called the police. The victim was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head.
