A New York City man accused of shooting his first-grade teacher girlfriend dead earlier this week reportedly turned the gun on himself following an hours-long standoff with police.
Officers responded to a Baychester apartment where the 35-year-old suspect had been hiding with an acquaintance at around 2:20 p.m. Thursday.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours as police tried to negotiate his surrender.
The man ended up shooting himself. He was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.
“The police brought him out on a stretcher. He wasn’t moving. I thought he was dead,” a neighbor recalled.
The suspect is accused of killing Jessica Hoyle, 31, late Tuesday after a day of arguing.
Hoyle’s mother, who lives in an apartment downstairs, heard the gunshot and called the police. The victim was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head.
