A Texas student is dead, and another is behind bars facing murder charges after a fatal stabbing at a track meet in Frisco, police said Wednesday.
Police said an altercation over bleach seating between the two 17-year-olds ended in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, an 11th grader at Memorial High School.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at Frisco Independent School District’s Kuykendall Stadium during the University Interscholastic League’s championship.
Karmelo Anthony was reportedly told he was sitting in the wrong place when he brandished a knife and stabbed Austin in the heart in front of his twin brother.
“End result, he stabbed my son in the heart and killed him,” the twins’ father Jeff Metcalf said. “Something so small, so trivial.”
First responders tried to save the victim’s life by performing CPR and administering blood, but he was eventually declared dead at the scene.
“His brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms.”
Anthony has been charged with murder and booked into the Frisco City Jail.
