Police in Fort Worth, Texas, are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy as a homicide after his mother allegedly crashed her car into a river late last month.
Investigators said that Melanie Robinson, 38, acted “in purpose” when she drove her car into the Trinity River near Beach Street and East Freeway on March 22.
Robinson’s 22-month-old son, Jonas Allen, was recovered from the creek about 18 hours after the incident.
The mother was pulled out of the submerged vehicle and taken to the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where she died three days later.
Before Robinson’s death, her sister shared that she had spoken with her just before the crash when she picked up her toddler from their mom’s home.
“She’s a great person, she loved her kids, and she’s fighting for her life right now. I just want her to be OK.”
