An 11-year-old Texas boy died a hero late Thursday after he jumped into a creek to save a friend from drowning and did not resurface.
Harris County deputies responded to the incident near Cypress Creek in Spring at around 6:20 p.m.
Once at the scene, police learned that a group of children were playing near the creek when one fell into the water.
The victim jumped in an attempt to save his friend but went missing. Rescuers spent several hours looking for him.
The boy’s body was recovered Thursday night. His identity wasn’t immediately released, but Harris County Sheriff’s Captain S. Wilson identified him as his “Godson.”
“The first one that jumped in there, that’s my Godson…they’re all friends, they all hang out together. This is a tragic event, and our heartfelt condolences go out to everybody involved,” he said.
