A Maine man took his own life after going on a rampage, killing his mother and a motorist and wounding two others, on Wednesday evening.
Police said 29-year-old James Davis III was experiencing a mental health crisis when he shot his mother, 47-year-old Christine Smith, to death as she drove him home.
When the car came to a stop, Davis stepped out and started shooting at motorists with a rifle, killing Katherine Williams, 53, and wounding Tyson Turner, 19, and David Wilson, 35.
State Police Col. William Ross said that Davis, who was armed with a .357 revolver, an AK-style rifle, and at least two other guns, shot himself dead.
“A very dynamic scene involving a mother and an adult child; so it has a domestic undertone to it,” Ross said.
“Then you have random acts of violence at people that James Davis III did not know and did not have contact prior to shooting.”
