A 16-year-old suspected thief was fatally shot by accomplices early Friday morning while the group attempted to break into a vehicle, police said.
A 911 caller reported “suspicious people that may be breaking into cars,” and surveillance footage showed six people breaking into a white Chevrolet Suburban in St. Louis, Missouri.
Something appears to startle the thieves before they start firing guns in all directions, fatally hitting one of them.
The thieves dropped the teen at a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
“I run downstairs and grabbed my phone, and I see him lay down on the ground, and I call the police,” a witness recalled.
Police believe the thieves were involved in a similar incident across the city.
“I can confirm that our detectives are working with other nearby law enforcement agencies to see if these individuals are connected to any other car break-ins that have happened across the region,” said Police Spokesman Mitch McCoy.
