A pilot and a passenger were killed when a small plane crashed into homes and caught fire Saturday afternoon in Simi Valley, California.
The home-built Vans RV-10 slammed into two homes near High Meadows Street and Wood Ranch Parkway just after 2 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
“Simi Valley PD in coordination with the medical examiner’s office has verified there were two passengers in the aircraft, both of whom were fatally injured in the accident,” the Ventura County Fire Department said.
Officials said that there were people inside the two residences, but they were not injured.
“All of a sudden, we heard a big crash and our entire house started shaking,” a witness said, recalling seeing a “big, massive fireball.”
“We actually thought something crashed into our house.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the crash.
