A 10-year-old Atlanta girl was killed and two of her relatives were hurt when a tree fell on their home early Saturday.
The tragedy occurred in the 1400 block of Mims Street SW at around 3 a.m. Saturday.
A tree snapped in half and fell onto the victims’ home, killing 10-year-old Erica Dixon. Her mother and grandmother were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and are expected to recover.
“This is a sad occasion. It’s a tragedy. There’s no other way to say it,” said Atlanta Fire Rescue Spokesman Anare Holme.
The victim’s 14-year-old sister described the ordeal that struck her family after a night of storms.
“The house just started shaking. Everything just crashed, and I just saw my mama running through the hallway to get my grandma,” she recalled.
“I broke down really badly, because that wasn’t just my little sister. That was my best friend.”
