Boy, 4, found dead weeks after he slipped, fell into Mass. river

The body of a missing boy was found weeks after he was swept away by the Merrimack River while fishing with his mother and siblings.

An off-duty state trooper spotted the body in the water near the Trull Brook Golf Course in Tewksbury on Friday.

The State Police marine unit, dive team, and officers with Lowell and Methuen Police Department responded to the scene and recovered the body.

    Police said Lopez slipped and fell into the river, triggering an exhaustive search that spanned nearly two weeks and involved multiple agencies.

    Foul play is not suspected in the boy’s death.
