Authorities in Long Island made a horrific discovery of about 100 deceased cats inside a home where a man lived alone.
Reports of foul smell sent fire crews to the house of horrors where they discovered dozens of cats’ corpses strewn across the residence and stuffed inside a freezer.
The discovery was made at around 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Bohemia Fire Department said.
“They notified us about cats and dead cats in the dwelling,” said Assistant Chief Brian Olsen.
“They are at this time condemning the house.”
Officials placed a “keep out” sign on the front door of the condemned house due to high levels of ammonia.
Cats could be seen pawing at the windows as investigators processed the house.
Neighbors said the home is always surrounded by cats.
“I’ve lived here my whole life, and we’ve just seen cars coming in and out of the sump over here and at their garage and front door,” one said.
“We’ve had a lot of stray cats come in our back and front yards a lot.”
