A Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy is dead after he was fatally struck by a father who had just lost his teen son in an officer-involved shooting.
Rodney Hinton Jr. allegedly struck and killed the deputy as he stood outside his vehicle, managing traffic at an intersection on Friday.
Hinton’s 18-year-old son, Ryan Hinton, was reportedly shot and killed on Thursday by Cincinnati officers after he pointed a handgun at them.
Through tears, Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said that the fallen deputy had retired months ago but still worked as a special deputy for the department.
“I knew the man and I knew what a tremendous, tremendous person he is and what tremendous loss we have all suffered,” the sheriff added.
Hinton Jr. has been charged with aggravated murder.
