Ohio fire cadet dies after suffering medical emergency during training

An Ohio fire cadet suffered a fatal health emergency during a training session earlier this month, authorities said.

Cleveland Fire Cadet Symeon Williams suffered a medical emergency while performing physical training on May 16.

The 39-year-old received lifesaving care at the scene and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

  • The father-of-two was a 2004 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and a member of the 40th Cleveland Fire Training Academy Class.

    Williams worked for Cleveland EMS for 15 years before entering the Fire Academy in April. He was also a dear friend of Mayor Justin Bibb.

    “It’s difficult to put into words how saddened I am for his family, friends, fellow cadets, and everyone else who knew how caring, selfless, and compassionate he was,” Bibb said.

    “He was excited to further his commitment to helping others by joining the Fire Academy, and that has tragically been cut short.”
