Man takes own life after abducting, killing woman on SC highway

A man and woman were found dead inside a vehicle in a suspected murder-suicide that took place on Interstate 85 in South Carolina.

Mauldin Police said 38-year-old Nathan Orlando Cureton forced Taylor Gennalee Maraj, 24, into his blue Subaru Impreza at gunpoint at around 11:40 a.m. on May 24.

  • Cureton then shot Maraj dead inside the vehicle before turning the gun on himself.

    The pair’s bodies were discovered by Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies at around 12:30 p.m. near River Road and the Piedmont exit.

    While authorities did not reveal a motive for the incident, they said the victim and suspect knew each other well.
