A teen was killed and an officer wounded in a police-involved shooting on Chicago’s West Side late Thursday night.
Officers were on patrol shortly after 10:30 p.m. when they attempted to arrest a young man in an alley in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The teen escaped to a backyard where officers followed him, and a struggle ensued.
At some point during the fight, the man’s gun discharged, hitting an officer in the leg.
Another officer then fired a shot, killing the man. The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.
The suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Nathaniel Fejerang, died at Mount Sinai Hospital.
His firearm has been recovered. An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
