A human body was found in a garbage truck outside a Long Island middle school early Thursday, police said.
Someone spotted an injured man inside the truck’s trash receptacle outside William Rogers Middle School in Kings Park at around 6:30 a.m. and called 911.
First responders pulled the man out of the truck and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
After searching the truck, police found another man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the two men were sleeping in a dumpster outside a local shopping center before ending up in the garbage truck.
The tragic incident remains under investigation. School officials insisted that students and staff were not involved.
“There is absolutely no threat to the safety of students, faculty, or staff, and the school day is operating as usual,” Superintendent Timothy Eagen said in a letter to parents.
