A Louisiana teen was gunned down during a high school graduation party early Tuesday, police in Lake Charles said.
McKenzie Rideau, 16, was the victim of a shooting at the party that had dozens of youth between the ages of 16 and 22 in attendance.
Gunfire erupted just after midnight, and neighbors said about 30 to 50 shots were fired inside the short-term rental where the graduation party was being held.
“It was just disturbing because my elderly mom lives here with me, and hearing the ricochet of the bullet, I had to get up and check on her to make sure nothing came into the house,” a resident said.
Police have yet to make an arrest in the case. Rideau was a volleyball player and flag line member with a “radiant smile and kind heart,” Lake Charles College Prep. Principal Dr. Freddie Harrison said.
