Two people were killed Thursday night in a fiery crash involving an SUV and a big rig on the 5 Freeway in Sylmar, Los Angeles.
Authorities said the SUV rear-ended the semi-truck on the northbound side of the highway near the Roxford Street exit at around 10:40 p.m.
The vehicle then burst into flames, killing two occupants. A witness recalled the horrific aftermath.
“I rushed over. I tried to get the semi’s attention to get a fire extinguisher. By the time he could get out and use the extinguisher, the car was already engulfed. He exhausted the extinguisher, and the car was still going, the fire was still going.”
Multiple lanes were shut down following the collision, but all were reopened by 5:30 a.m. The victims’ identities were not immediately released.
