Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, are investigating the death of a 1-year-old who was left in a hot car for several hours Sunday.
Authorities said the baby was found unresponsive inside the hot car outside a home at around 5 p.m.
The baby was reportedly in the care of a relative who forgot about the child until other family members contacted him to check on the baby.
“Anyone should be careful about their kids in the car. You know, we live in a crazy world. People are rushed and may not be thinking clearly,” said Gilbert Gallegos, communications director for the police department.
The baby died at the scene despite first responders’ efforts to revive them.
“Any death is obviously a tragedy, but a 1-year-old is really difficult to fathom. I know the family is really devastated at the scene, and it was a pretty large, extended family.”
“I ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
