Georgia deputy killed, another wounded after gunman opens fire during traffic stop

A Georgia deputy was fatally shot and another wounded when a suspect opened fire at them during a traffic stop Saturday evening.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. when the deputies pulled over the suspect on Interstate 20 just outside Augusta.

The gunman was later identified as James Blake Montgomery. He remains at large.

    Governor Brian Kemp said that he and his family were praying for the loved ones of the fallen deputy and his injured colleague.

    “As they remain in our hearts and prayers, we’re also peacefully reminded of why those who wear a badge have more than earned our enduring respect and appreciation.”
