New York City news, New York news.

A retired Cook County probation officer took her own life Friday morning just after she fatally shot her grandson’s mother in a tragic murder-suicide.

The NYPD said Marisa Galloway, 45, and Kathleen Leigh, 65, were found with gunshot wounds just half a block away from Gracie Mansion at around 9 a.m.

Both women died from their injuries. Leigh’s death was ruled a suicide.

Investigators recovered surveillance footage of the incident; it reportedly showed Leigh approaching Galloway after the latter placed her 1-year-old baby in the backseat of her car.

Police said Galloway and Leigh’s son were in the midst of a bitter custody battle over a 4-year-old son.

Officers previously responded to at least five domestic violence reports and two other complaints related to the family’s feud but none led to an arrest.
