Nanny arrested after toddler drowns in pond while in her care

A Pennsylvania woman is facing charges after a toddler drowned in a park pond while in her care, authorities said.

Imani Lewis, 28, reported a 3-year-old non-verbal child missing at around 7 p.m. on Sept. 2. She was the child’s nanny.

She told police that the child vanished while they were in Wilson Farm Park in Tredyffrin Township.

  • Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the park and said Lewis could be seen calling and texting people while the child played in the park.

    Officers later located the child’s body in a retention pond in the park.

    “This is a devastating death for the victim’s family. Our entire community has felt the effects of it,” Police Chief Michael Beaty said.

    Lewis has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. Her bond was set at $100,000.
