A Vancouver, Washington woman has been charged after she was caught strangling her pet cat in her apartment complex on Thursday.

34-year-old Amanda Nichole Blanco was charged with animal cruelty after multiple witnesses saw her strangling a cat, shaking it, and then walking away while holding it by the neck.

“It was very, very shocking. I didn’t wake up expecting to witness that. Regardless of where you find yourself, if you see any type of animal abuse, you should report it,” a witness said.

Blanco was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. She reportedly told detectives the cat, named Apollo was her emotional support animal.

Apollo survived the ordeal and is “fortunately okay” and was taken to a local animal humane society.
