Deaths of 2 Alabama best friends ruled murder-suicide after bodies discovered at senior facility

Authorities in Birmingham, Alabama have ruled the deaths of two best friends at a senior facility a murder-suicide.

68-year-old Larry Collins shot his best friend Roosevelt Walker, 66, dead before turning the gun on himself on the night of September 4.

The tragedy occurred at Freedom Manor Apartments where both were residents.

  • Walker, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and Collins had been best friends for more than three decades.

    “We have remained in touch daily with Mr. Collins’ family to check on their well-being,” Walker’s stepdaughter said.

    “Our family places no blame in this situation because we know this wasn’t intentional.”

    “You never saw one without the other and while it hurts. We know they left here doing what they’ve always done and that’s being with each other.”
