2 victims found dead after Georgia house fire were shot before blaze

Authorities in DeKalb County, Georgia believe that two victims found deceased after a house fire last week were shot before the blaze.

On Tuesday, the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as Derris Woods, 35, and Brittany Hall, 28.

Their cause of death remains undetermined but the office confirmed they both had gunshot wounds.

  • Firefighters were called to the home near Panthersville in an unincorporated community of the county at around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 9.

    The residence was completely engulfed in flames and the fire was so intensive that crews could not access the structure.

    The house eventually collapsed in part and responders worked to secure neighboring homes.

    Once deemed safe to enter, firefighters entered the home and pulled out the victims’ bodies.
