2 dead after altercation escalated to shooting at Detroit Lions tailgating spot

Two people were killed following a confrontation and a shooting at a popular tailgating spot near Ford Field in Detroit.

Gunfire erupted at Eastern Market venue around 4:30 p.m. Sunday after the Detroit Lions football game.

A confrontation unfolded after the Lions’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and just when things seemed to settle down, another clash reignited followed by gunfire.

  • “They reconvened a few feet away from the initial fight started,” Detroit Police Chief James White said.

    “The two fighters put up their hands like they were about to fight each other…One of the people in the fight, a male from Oak Park, pulls out a gun and fired at least twice.”

    Two male victims, both Detroit residents, sustained fatal injuries. A suspect is in custody.
