West Palm Beach news, Florida news.

Former President Donald Trump described the moment he heard gunshots being fired while he golfed in southern Florida during a second assassination attempt against him Sunday.

Trump told Farokh Sarmad in an interview streamed on X that he was golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach with friends including real estate investor Steve Witkoff when they “heard shots being fired in the air.”

The Republican nominee estimated that he heard “four or five” shots before he and his group got into golf carts and “moved along pretty, pretty good.”

“I was with an agent, and the agent did a fantastic job,” Trump said adding that the U.S. Secret Service did an “excellent job” protecting him.

Another Secret Service agent spotted the gunman, later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, sticking the barrel of a rifle through a bush-lined fence outside the gold club and fired the shots, forcing Routh to leave.

“You wouldn’t want to have somebody like that out there, you know,” Trump said calling Routh a “dangerous person.”

Routh did not fire any shots during his attempt and was eventually arrested in a neighboring county.
