Buffalo news, New York news.

A New York woman accused of keeping her injured toddler inside a filthy makeshift cage was arrested on child endangerment charges on May 8.

The New York State Police announced Thursday that a 24-year-old woman was arrested over the deplorable living conditions in which her 2-year-old son was found when police visited her Buffalo home in February.

Officers made the shocking discovery of the injured boy kept in the makeshift cage while serving the mother a felony arrest warrant for a separate crime.

The boy, who was suffering from two fractured ribs, couldn’t stand or exit the playpen that was turned into a cage inside the bedroom.

  • “The cage and 2-year-old were covered in human fecal matter. There was fecal matter on the walls. The child and bedding were soaked in urine and fecal matter,” police said.

“Bones or some sort of chicken bones. So I mean, it was something where you look at it and it was disgusting,” said NY State Trooper James O’Callaghan.

After an evaluation at the hospital, the bruised child was found to have two broken ribs in the healing stages.

Doctors estimated the baby’s ribs had been fractured and left without treatment for at least 10 days.

The mother claimed that the boy fell downstairs and sustained the injuries.
