Atlanta news, Georgia news.

The family of a slain Atlanta girl is relieved after her ex-boyfriend was charged with murder a week after her gruesome death.

Jesus Monroy was arrested two days after Mia Campos’ body was found on July 15 in a wooded area along a road. However, he only faced a charge of lying to the police, initially.

Investigators later determined that Mia, a pregnant 16-year-old, was lured to the entrance of her neighborhood and killed by asphyxiation.

Her family found her lifeless body lying face down alongside a road in Loganville using a tracking app.

  • “Definitely heartbreaking. You obviously want to keep the focus on the family and their grieving,” said Gwinnett County Corpora Juan Madiedo.

Mia’s father confirmed her unborn baby was Monroy’s child adding that he had always been wary of the suspect.

“Since the beginning, I had a bad feeling, like, ‘This is not good,’” Edward Campos said.

“I told my daughter, ‘Why don’t you just walk away? You’ve got your family. I mean, you’ve got everything.’ She had my support. She had my wife’s support.”
