Authorities in Louisiana arrested a woman they labeled a “career criminal” in connection to the death of a Kansas City sports reporter this week.
Telemundo sports newscaster Adan Manzano, 27, was found dead in his hotel room in Kenner on Wednesday afternoon.
The young reporter was on assignment to cover the Super Bowl when he suddenly died. Police found no obvious signs of trauma on his body but couldn’t locate his cell phone and credit cards.
Surveillance footage caught a woman, later identified as Danette Colbert, leaving Manzano’s room earlier on Wednesday.
A search of her home unveiled the deceased man’s cellphone and credit cards in addition to narcotics and a firearm.
Police said Colbert had a criminal history and was previously arrested for drugging another person and stealing their belongings.
“She plays a confident game. She’s definitely a career criminal. All her crimes are…access to vice, frauds, simple robberies, thefts, things of that nature,” Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said.
While Manzano’s cause of death remains unclear, Colbert is being charged with property crimes including fraud and theft-related offenses.
