A suspect is in custody in connection to the death of a Georgia police officer who was fatally shot while responding to reports of a suspicious person late Friday.
The unidentified officer was shot after approaching the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Edward Espinoza, outside a pickleball club, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
Espinoza allegedly pulled a firearm and shot the officer multiple times. The officer succumbed at a local hospital.
The suspect was arrested for murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Roswell authorities did not release the fallen officer’s identity. They added that the “priority now is to surround and support the family of our fallen officer and grieving department.”
