A North Las Vegas Police officer died in the line of duty this week after he confronted an armed suspect in a fierce gunfight.
Officer Jason Roscow, 46, responded to an armed person Tuesday afternoon and located the suspect.
He then issued commands but the suspect started approaching him. A shootout ensued and both of them were shot.
The officer died despite receiving life-saving measures at the scene. The suspect also succumbed to his injuries.
Roscow joined the department in 2007 working in different divisions including Traffic and Patrol Operations.
“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of one of North Las Vegas’s finest,” said Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt.
“Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge,”
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, friend, and his brotherhood in blue.”
