Morgan County news, Tennessee news.

A mother and her daughter were killed and three others wounded as a possible tornado swept across north-central Tennessee late Thursday causing “severe property damage.”

Morgan County Emergency Management officials said the two decedents were in the same home as the possible twister struck the Deer Lodge and Sunbright areas.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic event,” the Homeland Security Agency said.

The National Weather Service will later determine whether the weather event reached tornado status.

Authorities in Morgan County said that at least a dozen homes were damaged or destroyed by the possible twister.

“Right now we have the strike team activated to make sure we make sure we assist the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office,” said Capt. Stacey Heatherly.

“That is our mission, to make sure we can help.”
