The bodies of a 57-year-old man and his 88-year-old mother were discovered inside their Queens home Saturday afternoon, police said.
The man was found sprawled out on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the head next to a shotgun, suggesting he took his own life.
His elderly mother was discovered deceased in a bedroom. She had no apparent signs of trauma.
“He was a nice guy. We never really went into anything personal too much. The things I do know about him is that he liked to go fishing a lot, and he had a girlfriend. He used to be a roofer. Pretty sure he was retired,” a neighbor said.
“He was always outside. Quiet guy. Nice guy. He was always, ‘Hello, hello,’ to everybody. I think he lived with his mom. I never saw her,” another added.
Police are working to identify the decedents and autopsies have been scheduled to determine their cause of death.
