Violent storms kill at least 32; leave path of destruction across central, southern US

At least 32 people were killed as violent storms swept across central and southern US, leaving a path of widespread destruction.

Missouri officials confirmed at least a dozen deaths in the state while Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves announced that six people were killed in three counties while three others remain missing.

Eight people died in a pileup crash on a Kansas highway while three were killed in car crashes in the Texas Panhandle as a result of bad weather.

  • “It was a very rough deal last night,” said a Wayne County, Missouri resident. “It’s really disturbing for what happened to the people, the casualties last night.”

    The extreme weather threatened more than 100 million people with blizzard conditions in the north and wildfire risk in the south.

    “The amount of damage was catastrophic,” said Mississippi resident Bailey Dillon. “It was a large amount of cabins, RVs, campers that were just flipped over. Everything was destroyed.”

    “Homes and everything were destroyed all around it. Schools and buildings are just completely gone.”
