A Georgia police officer succumbed to his injuries days after he was shot while off-duty during a double murder-suicide incident.
Chickamauga Officer Charles “Chuck” Dunn died late Thursday, several days after he was shot by Russell David Payne who drove to his ex’s Rock Springs home and opened fire killing her and her father and injuring Dunn, a longtime family friend.
The 54-year-old suspect then turned the gun on himself. Dunn was off-duty and not in uniform at the time of the shooting.
“Even in his passing, his selflessness continues, saving lives just as he always did in uniform,” Chickamauga city officials posted revealing that his organs will be donated.
“Chuck was more than an officer. He was a friend, a protector, and a light in the lives of so many,”
“His sense of humor could brighten the darkest days, his kindness knew no limits, and his love for people and animals alike made the world a better place.”
