A teenage migrant was killed and another wounded when they told a group of men they did not speak English, the NYPD said.
A group of three men with dark complexions allegedly approached the two migrants in Lower Manhattan at around 7:40 p.m. Thursday and asked them if they spoke English.
When the teens replied that they did not, they were attacked by a knife and a screwdriver, police said.
17-year-old Yeremi Colino was stabbed in the chest and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
An 18-year-old victim was stabbed in the left arm and is expected to recover.
Police said that one of the suspects was wearing a green jacket, white pants, and sneakers. The second was wearing red pants, a black jacket, and a black backpack. The third was wearing red sweatpants, a black jacket, and blue and white sneakers.
They remained at large as of Saturday morning. The investigation into the incident continues.
