A Florida teen was arrested Thursday after he allegedly brought a gun to his Riverview high school, officials said.
A school resource deputy at Sumner High School received a tip about a gun on campus at around 3:30 p.m. and alerted Hillsborough County deputies.
The gun was found after a brief search and the 14-year-old student was taken into custody.
The teen now faces charges of minor in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
“It is never acceptable to bring a firearm to school. This is not only against the law but incredibly dangerous,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
“We are grateful for the quick response of our School Resource Deputy and the individual who provided the tip, ensuring the safety of our children. We will continue to take every measure necessary to keep our schools safe.”
