A 35-year-old man suffering from an apparent “behavioral crisis” shot himself in the head outside a Baltimore courthouse, police said.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the man remains in critical after he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and then was shot by a bailiff to the lower extremities.
“As he went into the courthouse, it was clear he was suffering from a behavioral crisis,” Worley said.
“He was walking back and forth. As he entered, the sheriff’s deputies and the bailiffs tried to interact with him, and at some point, he withdrew a firearm from his body, and pointed it at his head.”
Deputies and bailiffs tried to intervene to make the man drop the firearm.
“Unfortunately, he did not. At some point, one of the bailiffs fired a shot. The victim fired a shot, a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”
It remains unclear why the man showed up at the Eastside District Court.
